A Month Focused on Public Works:

Public Works week is May 21-27, 2023. What is your agency planning? Whether it’s through infrastructure or first responder services, public works professionals always enhance the lives of the communities they serve. This idea is reflected in the theme "Connecting the World Through Public Works." The 2023 National Public Works Week Poster illustrates how public works connects us all. APWA National now has this poster for sale at 2023 National Public Works Week Poster (apwa.net)

We would love to highlight what your agency or firms is doing to celebrate National Public Works Week in April’s newsletter. Please reach out to Joseph Blackman at: joe@vitendo.us

Arizona and Snow…People outside of Arizona don’t think these to words go together but if you live here, you know that certain parts of our state experience snow. We have seen incredible amounts of the white stuff this year and I bet many relocated residents are wondering who told them that Arizona was the place to go if you didn’t want snow??

Just as APWA National distributed their Snow Conference brochure, Arizona received record breaking snow levels in some with the March 3rd storm. According to the National Weather Service, snowfall totals as of 4 pm Thursday, March 2 were:

31 inches: 2 miles west-southwest of downtown Flagstaff
24.5 inches: Flagstaff airport
22.5 inches: Parks
30 inches: Kachina Village
23.8 inches: Munds Park
23 inches: Williams
22 inches: Bellemont
21 inches: Doney Park
19 inches: Washington Park
16 inches: Cornville
12 inches: Summerhaven (near Tucson)
11 inches: West Sedona

For our Arizona Public Works friends that are dealing with this season of white, the 2023 Snow Conference is being held April 16th-19th in Omaha Nebraska. The 2023 Snow Conference has it all, from expert-led snow and ice education sessions to an exhibit floor full of vendors excited to show you the latest winter maintenance solutions for your community. register here: http://snow.apwa.net).

Please be smart and safe as your travel our beautiful state!

Sincerely,

Sandy Schepis (Niebel)
