The City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility is currently working on a special project, unique to southern Arizona. The project consists of replacing the current 22nd Street viaduct over the Union Pacific Rail yard, with new bridge structures carrying 6 lanes of traffic, as well as a central pedestrian bridge. In addition to the challenging setting, logistics and overall site complexities, the project team is using segmental bridge construction, of which there is only one other structure of this type that has been used in the state.
In addition to sharing general project update information, members from the team will be sharing information regarding the use of segmental construction, its challenges and benefits, along with the unique team opportunities that have been utilized as well.
