Mark your calendar! The 2010 APWA Statewide Conference is scheduled for August 2 and August 3 at the Phoenix Convention Center. The APWA Statewide Conference
Committee is working to bring you another interesting and valuable conference
experience in the summer of 2010.
We are very much aware of the continuing budget issues and have begun the
planning efforts necessary to tailor the conference to provide the best value at
the least cost for those in attendance. The conference schedule will again be
compressed into two full days with professional development and core service
education emphasized in the program presentations. Reflecting on last year's
conference attendance and comments from the membership, we will once again hold
the conference at the Phoenix Convention Center, which served us well in 2009,
but with added flexibility in terms of networking and attendance.
As the details of the conference progress, we will be sharing that information
so that you can support this activity in your budget plans. If you have ideas
you wish to share with us, please send them to Ginger R. at azapwa@cox.net
Additional Conference Details Coming Soon!...

*Cost includes Chapter Dues. This special offer to join at about half of the normal Individual member national dues rate will help introduce people to the benefits of APWA membership. Please contact Patty Mahan (816) 595-5256 or Dave Dancy (816) 595-5250 if you have any questions.

A Note From APWA Nationals:
"Response to Haiti Disaster"
On behalf of all 29,500 APWA members, we express our deepest sympathies to victims of the Haiti earthquake disaster. The situation is a stark reminder of how important public works and infrastructure systems are to the day-to-day survival of people and our communities. And, we know that many in the public works community are anxious to lend support and help, whenever and however needed.
APWA reminds members and others in the response community that assets should not self deploy. In this case, the U.S. Department of State and USAID are leading the U.S. aid effort, and FEMA indicates assets should deploy only if tasked to do so by the U.S. State Department or USAID.
Offering Assistance
The most urgent need at this time is support for relief fundraising, and we are posting links below to the American Red Cross and the Canadian Red Cross, so that members may pledge monetary resources and work with other agencies to coordinate relief in an effective, unified manner.
To help, members can make an unrestricted donation to the International Response Fund at www.redcross.org or by calling 1-800-REDCROSS (1-800-733-2767). The Canadian Red Cross site is at www.redcross.ca. The public can also help by texting "Haiti" to 90999 to send a $10 donation to the Red Cross, through an effort backed by the U.S. State Department.
We remain in contact with several relief organizations and will notify you of other opportunities to help as they become available. Please check the APWA web site at www.apwa.net for regular updates and information. If you have questions, please contact Teresa Hon at thon@apwa.net or 816.472.6100.

Is My Space too unsafe for you? Too many unknown faces on Face Book? You need to join We Are Public Works. If you are fortunate enough to have a friend invite you in, simply follow the link they sent. Otherwise you may join and check out the new Arizona Chapter page. It's free, hosted by APWA and you'll recognize almost all of the faces, since they too work in public works. Try it you'll like it. If you'd rather tweet, we have a page for that too! We are even on LinkedIn.
